JMS Newsletter December 2016

We have had a very fitting start to the festive season at Jersey Music Service with the JMS Winter Spectacular taking place at Highland’s College on the 3rd December. The three concerts involved performances from six of our ensembles along with our two choirs and culminated with a special concert in the evening featuring two soloists, Emma Gunton (oboe) and Will Dryland (trombone), whose performances captivated the audience.

At the start of this term members of the Rhineland Tour Ensemble supported by our Youth ensembles, performed at the Jersey Marathon in St Aubin’s. The event organisers received great feedback from those involved in the marathon, the runners truly appreciated the extra burst of energy and the amazing atmosphere that the ensemble created to get them to the finish line!

Whole Class Ensemble Teaching

We have had a very musical term at both Springfield School and Mont Nicolle School this term, with children in Year 4 & Year 5 participating in our Whole Class Ensemble Teaching projects. Year 4 at Springfield have been learning the trumpet for a term with Miss Laurens and Miss Ronayne, and had their first performance at the end of November where they showcased what they had learnt, including an exciting performance of Fats Domino’s I’m Walkin’.

The children will be continuing next term with some students moving on to the tenor horn and baritone. Mrs Arnett & Miss Koester have been teaching Year 5 at Mont Nicolle the clarinet and their end of term concert involved some solo performances and a version of Snow Patrol’s Chasing Cars which the children renamed Chasing Clarinets!

Friends’ Committee

We would like to thank Keith Sunter and Sharon Jones who have recently stepped down from the committee after many years of valuable support to the Service. “Thank you for all your hard work and support on behalf of the young musicians of Jersey”. We now have a transitionary committee in place who are looking for new members, if you would like to assist them please email [email protected]

Jersey Sings!

We are working alongside the organisers of Jersey Sings! in preparation for next year’s event which will be taking place on Tuesday 13 June & Wednesday 14 June 2017 at Fort Regent. Each evening will feature up to 700 primary school children performing alongside a professional band and two international singing stars in what promises to be a spectacular performance.

If your child’s school is not taking part in Jersey Sings! 2017, we will be releasing details in the New Year of how they can become involved via the JMS Singcredibles choir.

Looking forward to 2017, you will by now have received your son/daughter’s timetable for next term. Please note the dates of their lessons and ensure that they have their instrument with them on the correct day. Lessons should be attended at the time listed for the first lesson. In some secondary schools we provide a rotation to ensure that academic lessons are not frequently missed, if this is the case a revised schedule will be provided to your child in their first scheduled lesson of the term.

We ask that you check the email address listed on the timetable is correct as we have had an increasing number of “Message Delivery Failures” and as such important notifications are not being received.

Please note you will have received an invoice for your child’s spring term tuition and, if applicable, instrument hire fees. If you are not a Direct Debit customer please process payment by the due date shown on the remittance.

The preferred method of payment is direct debit, therefore if you have not done so already please complete a direct debit mandate which you can print from our website ( located under lesson registration pack at the bottom of the home page and return to the following address:

Shared Services Accounts Receivable PO BOX 353
